Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.7, "Champions Never Fall to the Past," launches on March 24, and the Hollow Champion competition is exactly the kind of story beat this game does well. Everyone is in it. The Cunning Hares, the Sons of Calydon, Public Security's Metropolitan Order Division, and rumour has it the former Calydon's Sweepers are showing up too. New Eridu is buzzing, and so am I.

A Competition That Has Pulled the Whole City In

The Hollow Champion competition is hosted by TOPS and the prize is not nothing. The rare Porcelloy W-Engine is on the table alongside the bragging rights that come with actually winning the thing. When a competition draws in that many factions at once, including groups that don't exactly get along on a normal day, the story potential is obvious. I am genuinely curious how this one plays out.

Emerging from the shadows is Black Wolf Romeul, and he isn't a pushover. In battle, Romeul activates a Corruptive Barrier that boosts his CRIT Damage Resistance and Interruption Resistance while your team continuously loses HP. The good news is that sustained Anomaly damage breaks through the barrier more efficiently than other approaches, so building around that going in is the smart move. Teams that ignore that detail are going to have a rough time.

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.7 Adds Cissia and Nangong Yu

Version 2.7 adds two new S-Rank agents, and both of them look like they mean business.

Cissia

Cissia is from the Metropolitan Order Division and she fights like it. She enters every battle with three stacks of Venom, each of which deals Electric damage while temporarily pushing her CRIT Rate up. The stacks dissipate over time on their own, but her EX Special Attack keeps generating more. When you are ready to cash them in, Basic Attack: Serpent's Kiss unloads the damage in bursts at exactly the right moment. She rewards players who stay aggressive and keep the rotation going rather than sitting back and waiting.

Nangong Yu

Nangong Yu is the captain and lead dancer of Angels of Delusion, and she arrives as an S-Rank Ether Stun agent with everything in her kit pointing toward making your whole squad hit harder. She boosts her team's Anomaly Buildup Rate against Stunned enemies and automatically regenerates a resource called Downbeat over time, with extra Downbeat coming in whenever a squad member lands an Anomaly on an enemy. Stack enough Downbeat and her charged attacks extend enemy Stun duration while accelerating her own Stun and Anomaly buildup. Her Ultimate activates Ether Veil: Delusion Reprise, which gives the entire squad an Attack boost. She is also getting a brand-new outfit this update.

One more thing worth knowing: collect all members of Angels of Delusion and you unlock an exclusive faction wallpaper. Returning in 2.7 alongside the new additions are Yidhari (S-Rank Ice Rupture) and Seed (Electric Attack).

Three Events Coming With Version 2.7

Beyond the competition itself, there is quite a bit happening across New Eridu this update.

The Simmer Hotpot Restaurant at Lumina Square is getting its own themed event. You will be helping Blaze sort out her latest problems while working through a hot pot-themed activity. It is a lighter diversion and honestly a nice change of pace from the heavier story content.

A special HSOS 6 mission adds a relay-style combat challenge where you complete the fight using three separate two-member squads. Building three functional teams rather than stacking everything into one is the whole point, and that kind of format tends to push you toward agents you might not usually run.

The Simulated Battle Trial is also being updated with new enemy lineups and additional bonus mechanics. There are now leaderboard positions to compete for, and the rewards for pushing your score include Polychromes, a namecard, and exclusive titles. If you have been sleeping on the trial mode, 2.7 is a good time to revisit it.

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.7 launches March 24 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PC, iOS, and Android.
